Our pledge to finish the repeated cycle of our marriage in this lifetime. 

To complete our contract. 

We got married to stop getting married. These first ten years were our first date forever.

We were so in love with being in love on this first date.

Amidst the artistry and alchemy, there was healing and hell.  We jumped in open hearted to family drama, idealism, bad habits, perfectionism, addictions, what have you. We just took it all.

Then the baby. Then the pandemic. Homeownership, betrayal, loss, isolation, business collapsing, accidents. When there is no room left for romance, the real marriage kicks in. This time with clarity. Clearer boundaries. On time, money, energy. 

Even for each other. 

That is when we decided to go on a second date. 

Our marriage lesson is simply this. Each soul is on its own path. No soul comes back into a body without work to do. I had a lot of therapy by the time I got married. Still, I could not have imagined the deep need in me to be held, seen, and supported through my ascension. A powerful coupleship steers ahead during those times when everything is a trigger, when we feel betrayed, alone. We don’t betray each other, we hold the line.

If we can make it through when we have no room for self-care, consciousness to love ourselves the way we deserve, or as much compassionate space as we did on that first date for the other’s anarthas, then we come out with embracing wisdom. We come out with new boundaries. We have a pathway to transcending them. And that destiny to pivot towards total devotion can be seen, heard and felt through the illusionary veil that is the external circumstances of life.

Marriage is a sacred container. Family is an ashram. Community.

I am so grateful to have had the teachers to help me make the intelligent choice to vow to finish my karma with my beloved husband. We have this perfectly matched daughter, home, business, friends, spiritual community, and vibrancy to keep us going for a very long time. I can only hope that the next decade is the best second date ever. This time with strategic boundaries as the basis to our bliss.
