Remember the part in the movies GOONIES where they are up in the attic and find the buried treasure map?

In the real world, that Map is always somewhere. It’s always waiting.

It’s how to read the Map, that’s the issue.

June (short for Juniper, love that) feels lucky she was an 80’s kid, that she had no technology but a dial phone. That she could walk to her friends and to school. That she had a little woods, the city close by, the Brady Bunch, and the freedom to watch tv or play in the street without Facebook in her face.

She thought she was set with her 2 younger kids off to college. Her oldest son has made her a grandmother, and her husband’s job is secure.

So why does she feel like she’s dying, spiritually? Her dreams have become nightmares. She’s having panic attacks. She’s not sick physically, just dying inside.

We already graduated a Soul Mapping Mentorship in 2019, and she is now working at Couples Mentorship. Kalá and I meet with her and her beloved, individually and collectively.

So what of our children today? What are we thinking and feeling about our kids’ experience? Is the magic canceled? That safety doesn’t exist? That they should tell on each other – not for stealing, but for not wearing the right clothing?

I sigh with empathy, I listen, I am with her.

How deep does this rabbit hole of a Matrix go?!

And there it was. She said the M word.

Radical Vulnerability is our vow, together yes? I ask her.

Yes, she says, give it to me straight Jai.

It goes way the hell down. And way the hell wide. And up too, I say. It’s in your dreams, in your psychic landscape, in your language. It’s both illusion and real.

Break out of that matrix, I said.

I asked June if she remembered the feeling of watching Goonies. If she, like me, recognized that the amazing adventure was because of the relationships! The friendships. The incredible innocent sweetness and support they gave each other was the stuff of good dreams. The various personalities, the humor, and depth.

It was all in their team. In how they are associating. They shared in magic, in real time. They pivoted. Individually, in various relationships with one another, and as a collective.

Goonies is real. We’re being given that opportunity right now. Couples especially.

In my experience of a thirty year career in acting, then running a Yoga School, a studio, traveling the continents 12 times, mentoring, marriage, and having a baby, I have learned this: you have to go to the depths of pain, fear, and story to get to the treasure.

I’ve learned from so many leaders that humility is joyful. That if we work our tools, find our team, and practice radiating positivity and service – that we are in divine flow.

June, I asked, are you going for the beauty, intelligence, sacredness, confidence, and the divine flow? In yourself? In your coupleship?

As an 80’s kid myself, I know my issue is not HOW to feel that innocence, creativity, adventure, and team sweetness – but how to feel that while IN the trigger. How to feel it On the pirate ship, walking the plank, scared and in discomfort.

I teach others to do the same thing.

Like a fungus that goes viral in your body, it’s there forever, you have to manage it.
